What To Do When You're Feeling Uninspired

It’s safe to say that at one point or another, you’re going to feel uninspired. It’s happened to me more than once.

Sometimes, I don’t have the motivation to write. And I think we can all feel like that sometimes. But, how you get yourself out of this uninspired slump is the question.

And I have some answers for you. (and for me, because let’s face it — I need the reminder).

Think like a traveller.

So, I first came across this idea when I took an online course called Achieving Personal Success.

You know when you go on holiday, or to a city you’ve never been to before and everything just seems more vivid and exciting? Yeah, that...

Our brains suddenly become super active when we are in an unfamiliar place — try turning that part of your brain up every day.

Why do we only limit this feeling to places we have never been? There is so much around us now that we are missing because it’s just part of our normal day to day life.

If you want to feel inspired again, think like a traveller.

Go for walks to parks you haven’t been to for a while. Take photos of the lake near you that you totally forgot was there. Write down what’s going on around your town and things you have come across that you might have missed before.

The list goes on. There is so much we all could be missing, that’s right in front of our eyes, and could give us the inspiration we need to get back on track.

‘Blessed are the curious, for they shall have adventures.’ — Lovelle Drachman

Recognise that you are uninspired, and ask yourself questions.

‘What am I telling myself that’s causing me to feel uninspired?’
‘How am I feeling right now?’
‘What normally inspires me? And how do I find that again?’

Once you’ve recognised that you are feeling uninspired — you’ve made the first step.

Next, try asking yourself questions to learn more about where your heads at. Write it down if you have too. You’ll be surprised how much your thoughts could be holding you back.

When all of your thoughts are on paper in front of you, it’s easier to sift through the crap and find out what’s really going on with you.

And then you can go from there.

Keep on learning.

Take a course. Read your favourite blogs. Pick up your favourite book. Write down a draft and return to it later.

Do whatever keeps your brain active.

Learning new things can really help to get you inspired again.

Whatever you want to learn and how you want to do it, is entirely down to you. But keep on learning, there will always be something left to learn in your lifetime.

When it comes to blogging, it can be so hard to not compare yourself to others as well. Am I posting enough? Am I a bad writer? Should I be posting more?

But - all I can say is, it's your blog - you can do whatever the hell you want with it. Be you. Write whatever you want to write about and post whenever you want to post :)

  1. I like the idea of thinking like a traveller. I relate to this on a daily basis. For instance.. I lived in Lisbon and didn't appreciate the city as the tourists do. Once I started to think like a traveller I felt like a tourist and enjoyed so much more living there. Keep up with the good work.
